When I’m not writing on this blog, you can find me at my day job working as a community pharmacist. While I love solving people’s problems day in and day out and educating people about their health, I also equally love spending time outside in the wide open pasture. Having no walls, no phone, and no computer screen to stare at really rejuvenates my mind and soothes my soul. After breathing the fresh air for a few days out on the farm, I can go back to the pharmacy fully recharged to provide good, quality patient care.
I found out a few years ago that I love cattle farming. My husband and I started out with a tiny herd of 8 cows during the middle of 2020, and it was really by accident that this all happened. We had a neighbor that was moving away and wanted to sell us his stock, and we had a pasture that wasn’t being used. It was a win-win. I never thought I would love a hobby so much! I was actually surprised at how much I loved taking care of our little herd of cows. I loved taking pictures of them, I loved that my boys fell in love with them; and I loved that we could take care of them as a family.
We then had a dear, sweet friend of ours sell us 33 red Angus cows and one hoss of a black Angus bull for a steal of a deal in March of 2021, and we haven’t looked back since. We’ve been consistently trying to grow our herd since that day, with a focus on genetics and overall herd improvement. Nurturing these guys has been a real family adventure!
We’ve grown our farm to a much larger size in order to accommodate our rapidly growing herd, and it turns out nothing makes me happier than increasing the wide open spaces around here. Our boys need room to roam, and we all need more cows around to teach us valuable life lessons.
Our hope is to one day sell beef in a direct to consumer model, but until that day, we will continue to work on our product and stock. Also until that day, I’ll continue to spread positive vibes and good content via this blog. My ultimate goal in life is to live like what is written by inspiration in Matthew 5:16. “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” I just want to be a light in a world of darkness, and I want to uplift all whom I may encounter. Hold me to that standard, guys!
